Ririe Joint School District No. 252 does not discriminate on the basis of disability in admission to, access to, treatment in, or employment in its programs and activities. This commitment is required by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
What Section 504 provides
Section 504 protects qualified students with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. A student who qualifies is entitled to a free appropriate public education, including regular or special education and related aids and services designed to meet the student’s individual educational needs as adequately as the needs of students without disabilities are met.
Parents’ rights to evaluation and services
If you believe your child may have a disability and may need services or accommodations, you have the right to request an evaluation. Parents have the right to notice, to review relevant records, to participate in decisions about identification and placement, and to an impartial hearing with the opportunity for representation if they disagree with a decision. Contact the building principal or the district’s 504 / ADA Coordinator to begin the process.
How to file a grievance
If you wish to file a formal grievance alleging disability discrimination, submit it in writing to the district’s Section 504 / ADA Coordinator. To allow a prompt review, your grievance must include all four of the following:
- the nature of the grievance;
- the facts that support it;
- the remedy or relief you are requesting; and
- your signature and the date.
