Title IX

Ririe Joint School District No. 252 does not discriminate on the basis of sex in its education programs or activities, and is required by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 not to discriminate in that manner. This includes admission, employment, athletics, and all school programs.

What Title IX covers

Title IX prohibits sex-based discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence in schools. It protects students, staff, and applicants regardless of sex. Retaliation against anyone who reports a concern or participates in an investigation is also prohibited. The district’s commitment to sex equity is set out in Board Policy 3280, “Equal Education, Nondiscrimination, and Sex Equality.”

How to report or file a complaint

Anyone who believes they have experienced or witnessed sex discrimination or sexual harassment may report it to the building Title IX Coordinator below. You may report in person, by phone, by email, or in writing. Reports can be made at any time, including outside of school hours.

1. Contact the Title IX Coordinator with a description of what happened, including dates, people involved, and any witnesses.
2. The Coordinator will explain your options, the supportive measures available to you, and the formal grievance process.
3. If you file a formal complaint, the district follows its written grievance procedures, which provide a prompt, fair, and impartial investigation for all parties.

Grievance policies

Reports are handled under Board Policy 3085, “Sexual Harassment, Discrimination and Retaliation Policy,” and the step-by-step formal process in Board Policy 3085P, “Title IX Sexual Harassment Grievance Process.” These procedures provide notice to the parties, an opportunity to respond, and an impartial decision-maker. The district will provide a copy of either policy on request at no cost. You may also file a complaint directly with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights.
